About SDG

Crafting Bibles with Purposeful Devotion

“My goal in life is to do everything to the glory of God, putting my utmost effort into my craft, ensuring that each rebind reflects my dedication and faith.”
The Story Behind

History

SDG Rebinds started as a general leathercraft hobby in 2016, motivated by a new interest in hiking and bushcrafting. Some of the first leather projects were related to that (axe and knife sheaths, belt storage). Eventually, that transitioned to other leather products, like journal covers and wallets. To my surprise, people actually wanted to purchase some of my items. In 2019, I moved to Los Angeles to attend The Master’s Seminary and made my leathercraft hobby into a business, and called it “SDG Leather Goods.” In the Fall of 2019, someone had asked me to make a rebind, and I said yes. After watching some YouTube videos and reverse-engineering from what I could see, my first experimental rebind was done. This resulted in more people being interested in getting a rebind done, and by the end of 2020, most of my orders were for Bible rebinds. In 2021 I graduated from seminary and moved back home, to Salem, OR. Rebinding Bibles became my full-time job, which also gave me the flexibility to be involved in church as needed. Later that same year, since almost all of my orders were for rebinds, the name was officially changed to SDG Rebinds.

Soli Deo Gloria

What is SDG?

In one of the sermons by John MacArthur I heard the story about Johan Sebastian Bach. Being a devout Christian, Bach wanted to honor God through his talents. One of the ways he did this, was by writing “SDG” at the bottom of his finished work. SDG stands for Soli Deo Gloria – a Latin phrase that translates to “Glory to God alone.” Just like Bach, my goal in life is to do everything to the glory of God (1 Cor 10:31), including putting my best effort into making the best possible rebinds.

About Me

My name is Vitaliy Shipuk and I was born in Odessa, Ukraine. When I was 12, my family moved to USA back in 1997. When I was in my late teenage years, God graciously called me to Himself, and fairly quickly I became involved in all sorts of ministries in church. Through various experiences, I sensed God’s call for pastoral ministry and I graduated from The Master’s Seminary in May 2021. In November 2024 I was ordained as one of the pastors of my home church – Grace Bible Church of Salem – where I serve in a variety of ways, but primarily leading the young adults ministry.
